Tony Arnold paced Eastridge to two wins as the Lancers ended the regular season with a five-game win streak. Pittsford Sutherland’s Ben DiGiovanni supplied the highlight of the week. Spencerport’s Josh Reding stuffed the stat sheet, and Keith Slack kept Gates-Chili’s momentum going.
The foursome earned the final Monroe County Player of the Week (February 12-16) honors for the 2017-18 season.
Arnold totaled 60 points in a pair of Eastridge wins last week. The sophomore guard matched a season high with 33 points in a win over first-place Honeoye Falls-Lima and closed the week and regular season with 27 points in a victory at Greece Olympia. Arnold shot 55 percent from the floor while averaging seven assists, seven rebounds and 7.5 steals in the two contests. He also took three charges combined in the two victories. Eastridge’s leading scorer has accounted for 20 or more points in nine of the Lancers’ last 10 games. Eastridge (12-8) earned a No. 5 seed in the upcoming Section V Class A1 tournament and will open against fourth-seeded Pittsford Mendon (16-4).

DiGiovanni showed a flair for the dramatic. The sophomore guard nailed a runner in the closing seconds of Sutherland’s dramatic 51-50 victory over cross-town rival Pittsford Mendon. DiGiovanni averaged seven points, two assists, two boards and two steals in two wins as Sutherland went on to defeat Brighton to end the week. The Knights closed the regular season with four straight victories. DiGiovanni has come off the bench and scored in each of the Sutherland’s last dozen contests including a pair of double-digit performances. Sutherland (17-3) earned a three-seed in the upcoming Section V Class A1 tournament and will host the winner of the No. 6 seed Canandaigua vs. No. 11 seed Franklin opener in the quarter-finals next Saturday.

Reding connected on four 3-pointers and netted 25 points as the Rangers fell in closely-contested match with Irondequoit ranked No. 9 NYSSWA Class A. The senior guard added five assists and a steal in the contest. He opened the week with 25 points, four assists and two steals as the Rangers lost to Hilton. Reding connected on five triples and handed out four assists and collected two steals in the game. No. 7 seed Spencerport (8-12) will open the Section V Class A1 tournament against No. 10 seed Greece Arcadia.
Slack continued his torrid pace. The junior point guard scored 19 points in Gates-Chili’s lone game of the week, an 81-51 victory over Hilton. The Spartans (14-6) closed the season winning three straight and eight of their last nine. Slack averaging 22.7 points per game, topped double figures 17 times this season. He has scored 1,105 career points. No. 3 seed Gates-Chili will host No. 14 seed Aquinas (5-15) in the opening round of the upcoming Section V Class AA tournament.
