Aquinas falls to No. 4 Liverpool (III)

Sophomores Kidtrell Blocker and Tyler Warner paced the Li’l Irish offense, but Aquinas fell to the Liverpool Warriors (III), 67-53 in boys basketball action, Saturday afternoon at the Wegman-Napier Complex.

Blocker connected on 10 of 19 shots from the floor and finished with a game-high 22 points. The 6-foot-4 forward added eight rebounds to the effort.

Warner posted his second straight double-double with 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. The 6-foot-10 center was part of an overall effort which saw Aquinas outrebound Liverpool 51-25. The Li’l Irish grabbed 25 offensive rebounds to Liverpool’s 10 on the offensive glass.

Alan Willmes sparked a 10-1 run that started late in the first quarter with pair of layups, and Liverpool had a lead it did not surrender. Kyle Butler scored four straight, and Jake Piseno finished a layup to gibe the Warriors a 19-10 advantage early in the second quarter.

Charles Pride pushed the advantage to 10 at 27-17 with 1:56 to go in the half.

Noah Issakainen hit a 3-pointer followed by layups from Willmes and Nas Johnson to Liverpool its largest lead of the game midway through the fourth quarter at 59-39

Willmes paced the Warriors with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

Butler hit 5 of 10 shots for 14 points to go along with a game-high 10 assists while committing just one turnover.

Issakainen had 13, and Peter Cerrone scored 10. Johnson finished with four points. Pride had six.

Liverpool converted 31 Aquinas turnovers into a 24-12 advantage in points off ball handling miscues.

Aquinas (4-14) outscored Liverpool (20-0) in second-chance points (24-5).
