ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The RIT (10-3-2, 3-2-2 Liberty League) women’s soccer team hit the road Saturday afternoon and beat Bard College (7-8-0, 1-7-0 Liberty League) 2-0 in Liberty League action. With the win, RIT moves into fourth place in the Liberty League standings with 11 points.
Shots were 11-5 in favor of RIT. The Tigers took eight corner kicks to none for the Raptors. Marla Roberts (Penfield, NY/Home Schooled)and Riley Yankowich (Deerfield Beach, FL/Germantown Academy)scored the RIT goals, while Monique Polanco (Merrick, NY/John F. Kennedy) added an assist. Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) got the win in net for RIT, making one save. Tessa Greenhalgh took the loss in net for Bard, making two saves.
RIT took the lead in the 41st minute on Roberts’ third goal of the season. Polanco played Roberts with a nice through-ball. She beat Greenhalgh with a shot into the left corner to give the Tigers the lead.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead on a goal just before halftime. Yankowich tallied her fifth goal of the season off a corner kick. Elena Wolfe(Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) sent in a service that caromed off a Bard defender to Yankowich and scored off a header.
The Tigers hit 10 wins for the fourth time in the last six years under head coach Liz Masterson.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 25 when the Tigers face Ithaca College at 3:30 p.m. in Ithaca, N.Y.
