Houghton – N.Y. – A goal in the 70th minute from freshman Miranda Timberlake was all Nazareth would need Saturday in a 1-0 victory over Houghton in Empire 8 play. The Golden Flyers recorded their second consecutive shutout of the season and seventh overall.
The win for Nazareth puts its record at 10-4-1, including a 5-1 mark in Empire 8 play. Houghton drops to 5-8-1 and 3-3-1, respectively.
Nazareth has two conference games remaining, facing Alfred and Elmira next week.
It was a game that the Golden Flyers controlled the majority of play, finishing with a 19-1 advantage in shots.
Julia Delgatti had a chance in the third minute, putting a shot wide of the far post – she led the Golden Flyers with six shots in the match.
Highlander goaltender Sadie Dunnet stood tall in the first half, making seven saves to keep the score at 0-0.
The Golden Flyers continued their offensive pressure in the second, eventually breaking through on Timberake’s fourth goal of the season.
Hannah Miller now has seven shutouts on the year.
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Alfred for a 7 p.m. contest.
