ELMIRA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men’s soccer team drew a 1-1 tie with Elmira College in Empire 8 play. With the tie, Fisher sits at 7-4-4 overall, while moving to 2-3-1 in Empire 8 play. Elmira now stands at 3-10-2, while moving to 2-3-1 in the conference.
Elmira jumped on the board scoring its first and only goal in the 27th minute, when the Soaring Eagles ran a give and go inside the box, with a player finding the back right corner of the net.
Fisher finished the first half outshooting the Soaring Eagles, 5-1. Bryan Rollins fired three of these five shots in the half.
The Cardinals punched the equalizer with just three and half minutes remaining, when Justen Polk received a pass in the middle of the box from Rollins, beating the Elmira goalkeeper and burying the ball in the net, forcing overtime.
Jake Gentile recorded the lone shot for Fisher in the first overtime period, but the ball sailed wide of the net.
Fisher turned up the tempo, firing three shots in less than three minutes, but could not find the back of the net, drawing the 1-1 tie at the end of the contest.
The Cardinals finished with 20 shots on the day. Rollins tallied four on the day, while Polk added three shots of his own. Gentile, Joe Balls, Muhamed Milikovic and Dallas Kaiser also blasted two shots in the contest.
Joe Catalfamo recorded one save in the contest, over 110 minutes of play.
Fisher travels to the its final regular season road contest, playing at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against the SUNY Geneseo Knights.
