ST. LOUIS – Rochester’s women’s soccer team posted what might have been its biggest victory of the season last year when UR defeated then-8th ranked Washington University, 3-2, at Edwin Fauver Stadium. The Bears eventually won the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship.
Washington remembered that outcome and was prepared to take command early. The 2nd-ranked Bears did exactly that, posting a 6-0 victory over the Yellowjackets at Francis Field in St. Louis. Washington improved to 11-0-1 overall, 2-0 in the UAA. Rochester is 6-4-1, 0-2 in the UAA.
Taylor Cohen scored two goals for WU. Jessica Ridderhoff had one goal and one assist. Ellie DeConick, Katy Mockett, and Isabelle Tamburro had single goals. Assists went to Mia Mastrolianni, Maggie Crist, Darch Cunningham, Marianna Alisi, and Allison Cerny.
Samantha Hlavac started in goal for Rochester. She played 70:30, allowed four goals and made 11 saves. She faced 25 shots. Madilynne Lee played the last 19:30 with two goals allowed and three saves, facing eight shots.
For WU, Emma Greenfield played 70:30 and made one save in three shots. Katy Hutson played the last 19:30. She was not required to make a save.
In the first minute of play, Mastrolianni served the ball into the middle and DeConick volleyed it home for a 1-0 lead. Cohen netted her first of the afternoon in the 27th minute off a rebound. Midway through the second half, Ridderhoff had her goal and assist in less than two minutes. She scored at 62:24, then fired a shot that was saved, but Cohen touched home the rebound at 64:00.
Rochester returns to Fauver Stadium to host Brandeis (Friday) and NYU (Sunday) on Meliora Weekend.
