HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men’s soccer team scored a game high five goals in the team’s 5-2 defeat of the Houghton College Highlanders 5-2 in an Empire 8 Conference pairing. Fisher advances to 7-3-3 on the year, while jumping to 2-2 in the conference. Houghton drops to 5-7 in its 2017 campaign, while falling to 1-3 in the conference.
The Cardinals scored a season high, four goals in the first half. The team wasted no time jumping on the board, scoring the first three goals of the contest in the first seven minutes of play.
The first goal came with just 2:44 on the clock, when Muhamed Milikovic netted his first goal of the season. Three minutes later, Tyler Randall scored his third goal of the season off a pass from Dallas Kaiser. Finally, exactly one minute later, sophomore Jeff Meyers, buried his first goal of the 2017 season.
Jake Gentile finished off the first half scoring with just under 30 minutes in the first half when he fired in a shot, with the assist credited to Bryan Rollins.
Houghton scored their lone goal of the half about 2 and a half minutes later.
At the end of the half, Fisher held the 5-4 edge over the Highlanders, with five different Cardinals firing a shot apiece.
Houghton narrowed the deficit to two with a goal with about 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Cardinals would seal the deal with solid defensive play and a final, fifth goal with about one minute remaining in the contest. Milikovic scored his second goal of the season and the contest, securing the victory for the Cardinals.
Fisher finished the game with eight total shots. Seven of these on goal, and five for scores in the match. Milikovic, Rollins and Gentile all finished with two shots.
Joe Catalfamo took the win in net for the Cardinals, totaling five saves, over all 90 minutes of play.
Fisher takes a week long break, returning to Empire 8 Conference play at 2 p.m. on Saturday in a Battle of East Avenue, as the team takes on the Nazareth College Golden Flyers.
