Edi Muka collected two goals and an assist as the East High Eagles defeated the SOTA/NW/NE SilverHawks in RCAC action Monday afternoon.
The win was the third in four games for East High.
Muka took a Musa Mutombo diagonal lead in full stride along the right wing for the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute.
“That’s what we try to do,” East High coach Bill Cybulski said. “Every time we have a break we try to send it for Edi. He’s gotten countless goals that way. His speed is tough to match.”
Less than two minutes later, Muka returned the favor and set up Mutombo for the eventual game winner.
“We’re a second half team,” Cybulski noted. “We come out strong every single time in the second half. That’s when we get our momentum.”
Mutombo connected from just inside the the 18-yard box along the left wing and found the opposite side netting.
“Musa and Edi started clicking. That’s when we really started playing well.”
Muka opened the scoring in the 31st minute when he got behind the backline on a pass from Jazdiel Maldonado.
Chris Rapoza leveled the match for the SilverHawks one minute later when he converted a free kick from 45 yards away for his first goal of the season.
Brendan Traver cut the deficit to one with less than two minutes to go with his fourth tally on the year when he cleaned up the rebound on a Saheed Miller attempt from the right wing.
East High’s Abdiaziz Osman made a pair of saves late in the game to preserve the victory.
“Abdi is not even our real goalie,” Cybulski stated. “He’s a midfielder playing goalie for us this year. He’s playing phenomenal for us right now. Very proud of him.”
Muka leads East High with 13 goals to go with four assists on the season.
Mutombo has five goals and three assists.
SOTA/NW/NE hosts McQuaid on Friday.
East High plays Edison/Monroe on Wednesday.
