ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Host Nazareth got a first-half goal from Julia Delgatti Tuesday as the Golden Flyers overcame 90-degree heat and humidity to defeat the Univerfsity of Rochester in a non-conference women’s soccer game, 1-0.
Nazareth improved to 6-2-1 overall with its second straight shutout win while Rochester dropped to 5-2-1.
The Golden Flyers had an array of scoring opportunities as they unleashed 16 shots in each half, but the only one that landed in the net came in the 24th minute when Laura Herman crossed a pass from the left end line to Delgatti, who scored on a nifty back heel shot that slipped through the legs of Rochester keeper Emma Campbell.
Delgatti had 10 of Nazareth’s 32 shots, including six that were on goal. Paige Sullivan also had five shots and Jessica Byrnes added four.
Nazareth kept the pressure on in the second half and the best opportunity came late in the half when a header by Herman was turned aside by Rochester’s Madilynne Lee, who played the second half in goal for the Yellowjackets.
Hannah Miller played all 90 minutes in goal for Nazareth and made five saves for her fifth shutout of the season.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday at Hartwick at 12 p.m.
