PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men’s soccer team scored two goals late in the second half to overtake visiting D’Youville College, 2-1, in a non-conference battle at Fisher’s Growney Stadium.  With the win, the Cardinals improved to 4-1-3 on the season while the Spartans fell to 1-5-1.

After a scoreless first half of play, D’Youville struck first in the 66th minute after dribbling the ball in front of Fisher’s cage and blasting one into the upper corner to claim a one-goal edge.

Still trailing in the 83rd minute, Fisher evened the score at one goal apiece when Bryan Rollins worked his way to the end line before falling to the turf.  The senior stuck with the play, however, and was able to find teammate Tyler Randall who delivered a strike into the far corner of the net for Fisher’s first goal.

It didn’t take long for the Cardinals to strike again as Antonio Robles blasted a shot that deflected off a Spartan defender and into the D’Youville net to make it a 2-1 game in the 87th minute.

The Spartans had an opportunity in the waning minutes after earning a corner kick, but Fisher’s defense held firm and came away with the ball as time expired.

Joe Catalfamo earned the win in goal and moved to 4-1-3 on the season.  The senior keeper came away with four stops in 90 minutes of play.

As a team, Fisher outshot the Spartans, 24-7, and had nine corner kicks in all.  John Maroney took a game-high four shots for Fisher while Joe Balls had three to his credit.  Brian Norman, Jake Gentile, Justin Ferron, Randall, Robles and Rollins each took shots apiece in the win.

The Cardinals will jump back into conference play at 2 p.m. on Saturday as they continue their three-game home stand with a showdown against Utica College at Growney Stadium.
