KEUKA PARK, NY – The University of Rochester tallied a goal in each half, earning a 2-0 victory over Keuka College on Tuesday evening.
Rochester’s win, its second straight moves the Yellowjackets to 4-1-2 on the season while Keuka falls to 1-4 on the year.
The Yellowjackets applied the offensive pressure early and often in this one, taking six shots at goal in the opening 11 minutes, one of which was saved by Wolves keeper Christopher Spauling.
At 22:32, Keuka got its only shot on goal in the half, but UR’s Redd Brown was there to keep the game scoreless.
Rochester’s Lasha Alkhazishvili then made it 1-0 in favor of the visitors by heading goal at the 31:42 mark.
In the second half, Alkhazishvili nearly got his second goal of the game at 49:28, but Spauling was there to save his attempt away, leading to a Rochester corner kick.
On the ensuing corner, Bryce Ikeda’s attempt found Nate Leopold who deposited his shot into the back of the net for the 2-0 Rochester lead.
The Yellowjackets kept up the pressure, getting three straight corner kicks, back-to-back-to-back in the 53rd minute, with the third attempt ending in a Zach Lawlor header attempt that sailed wide.
Keuka tried to get back into the game, earning two shots and a corner kick with about 25 minutes remaining, but both header attempts were not on target.
For the game, Rochester held a 22-4 shot advantage and took 10 corners to Keuka’s two. Brown made one save in UR’s goal while Spaulding finished with six saves for the Wolves.
Rochester is back in action at home this Saturday, and UR hosts Wells College in a 7 pm game at Fauver Stadium.
