A trio of scorers connected in the second half, and the Webster Thomas Titans went on to defeat the Irondequoit Eagles, 3-0 in Monroe County Division II action Thursday night.
Luke Piazza snapped a scoreless tie less than two minutes after halftime as the Titans (4-1-2/2-1-2) remained undefeated in their last three contests.
Matt Hill made a run to the end line along the right side and found Piazza on the opposite post.
“We haven’t been able to convert the way we’d like,” Thomas coach Steve Grose said. “We were hoping to get a couple chances, and they did pretty well.”
Owen Lederman converted a direct kick seven minutes later to double the advantage.
“The first half was pretty even back and forth,” Grose noted. “In the second half we kinda wore them down. We had a lot of guys playing tonight, and they came in did a great job.”
Ryan Malley iced the game in the 77th minute when he redirected Kyle Sicke’s cross from the right side.
“We’ve been struggling finishing balls like that,” Grose added. “Lots of balls coming through the middle like you saw tonight. It was nice to get on the end of a couple of them at least.”
Thomas goalkeeper Jake Witte finished off his second shutout of the season.
“He’s very consistent. He doesn’t let much go by him. He controls his box really well, communicates to his defenders. He has them organized which cuts off a lot of shots for him.”
Thomas will host Rush-Henrietta in a non-league matchup next Monday. A 7 p.m. kickoff is scheduled.
Irondequoit (0-7-0) welcomes Gates-Chili for a non-league tilt as well on Monday. A 7 p.m. start is slated.
