BUFFALO, N.Y. – Visiting Nazareth scored the first three goals of the game, downing Buffalo State 3-1 Wednesday night in non-conference action. Nazareth, winners of two straight contests, improves to 4-1 on the season, while Buffalo State falls to 1-3-1.
Kate Billington scored her first goal of the season in the 13th minute, capitalizing on a deep shot that caught the Bengals goalkeeper off her line. It was Billington’s second career goal and first since the 2014 season.
The Golden Flyers took advantage of another Buffalo State mistake in the 34th minute as Elizabeth Guidi corralled a loose ball from outside the 18-yard box and fired it into the net for the 2-0 lead.
It remained 2-0 at the break.
Nazareth upped its lead to 3-0 in the 76th minute on a second-effort opportunity by Nicole Petocchi. The senior had an initial breakaway shot saved, before one-timing the rebound into the far post.
Buffalo State avoided being shutout late in the game as a blast from Kyndal Hetzel found the left side of the net.
Hannah Miller ended the game with two saves in goal to improve her 2017 record to 4-1.
Both squads amassed 11 shots in the game.
Nazareth hosts Brockport at 12 p.m. Sunday for their annual Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure game. All money raised during the game will be donated to the Wilmot Cancer Institute for breast cancer awareness.
