DALLAS, PA – The RIT women’s soccer team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, 1-0 at Misericordia University (4-0) at the Misericordia Tournament on Mangelsdorf Field Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars out-shot the Tigers 10-7, including 4-1 on goal, and both teams had five corners.

Amber Hartranft scored the lone goal for Misericordia in the 17th minute on a volley that went just inside the left post.

Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) took the loss for the Tigers, finishing with three saves. Alyssa Pojero got the win for Misericordia, finishing with one save.

The Tigers had a chance in the 58th minute on a cross from the right side, but Misericordia’s Lauren Anderson cleared the loose ball from the six-yard line.

In the 85th minute of the game Piper Zimmerman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) took a shot on goal for the Tigers in hopes to tie it up. Misericordia’s Alyssa Pojero made a save and the Cougars were able hold on and defeat the Tigers.

Yesterday, Riley Yankowich (Deerfield Beach, FL/Germantown Academy) scored both RIT goals in a 2-0 win over Farmingdale State to open up play at the Misericordia Tournament.

RIT returns to action Thursday, Sept. 14 when they travel to St. John Fisher to take on the Cardinals at 7 p.m.
