NEWTON, New Jersey – A day after dropping an overtime decision to eighth-ranked Monroe College, the No. 2 MCC Tribune women’s soccer team rebounded to defeat Sussex County Community College 5-1 Sunday afternoon.
Paige McGrath and Roosa Ariyo scored twice each and Taylor Ghysel added a goal and an assist for the Tribunes, who improved to 3-1-0 with the win.
Monroe peppered Sussex with 18 shots on the game, 13 of which were on goal.
Ghysel got MCC on the board in 35th minute, grabbing a rebound off a McGrath attempt and putting it home for a 1-0 lead.
McGrath then scored two goals in a span of 1:37 to put the Tribunes in control. The first was on a flick pass from Ariyo in the 43rd minute, and the next came on a penalty kick with a minute left before the break.
Ariyo scored both of her goals in the second half, with Charlotte Collins-Blaize and Ghysel picking up the assists.
Marykate Eckert played well in goal for Monroe. The sophomore keeper stopped five Sussex shots, with the only Skylander score coming on a breakaway in the 80th minute.
