BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport men’s soccer team dropped their first game of the season in a gritty battle against Medaille College by a score of 2-1. The Golden Eagles drop to 2-1 on the season and Medaille moves to 3-0.
The Green and Gold fell behind early as a Medaille goal put them behind 1-0 in the sixth minute. The defense for Brockport played hard the remainder of the first half keeping the score the same and giving their offense time to put together attack. Three of the four shots taken were on goal in the first half but the team was unable to net the equalizer and the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.
The Golden Eagles continued to battle and the offense came to life in the 54th minute when senior defender Chris Aherne headed the ball into the net after a well-placed cross by Jason Hayes evening up the score 1-1. The momentum would be short lived as Medaille converted on a penalty kick two minutes later and Brockport found themselves down by a goal, 2-1. Brockport unloaded 10 shots in the second half, but could not get one into the net and the score would remain 2-1 as the final horn went off.
Joseph Romano did his best to help the team and limit the damage and finished with a season high seven saves in 90 minutes of play.
Brockport will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 7 when they host Alfred University at 7pm.
