#14 Stanford Cardinal vs. Rice Owls
The last time these two teams met, the Cardinal’s routed the Owls 41-17 in the final game of the regular season. The Cardinal’s ended the season with a victory in the Hyundai Sun Bowl against the North Carolina Tar Heels, to finish the season 10-3. Coming into this season there is new face in the back field, as Christian McCaffery left for the NFL, the Cardinal will look to junior Bryce Love, who rushed for 779 yard and three touchdowns last season. The Owls, who finished last season at 3-9, return with a heavy veteran set on both sides of the ball, but won’t be a match up against the Cardinal. Stanford will start the regular season how they ended it last year in a rout over the Owls and begin their campaign for a shot to play in the national title game.
#19 USF Bulls vs. San Jose State Spartans
The Bulls are led by one of the most underrated quarterbacks in college football. Quinton Flowers threw for 2,830 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushed for 1,530 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. To say the least the kid is good. He has dynamic speed and can pick apart secondaries which makes him a dual threat. The Bulls travel out to San Jose to start the season against the Spartans, who were 4-8 last season. The Spartans struggled with stopping the run last season along with mobile quarterbacks, which is why Flowers and the Bulls are going to have a field day if they can not seem to contain him. The Bulls defense returns with senior Auggie Sanchez, who led the team in tackles with 120. The Bulls will run away with this one by three or four touchdowns and win fourth straight season opener.
