Sale picks up his 14th game with 10 or more strikeouts; Morales walks it off for Toronto

NEW YORK – Luis Severino punched out nine on strikes and allowed three hits in seven scoreless innings for the Yankees, who have won three in a row. Todd Frazier went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI while Didi Gregorius   homered and drove in two RBI for New York. Homer Bailey allowed five earned on 10 hits in six innings pitched for the Reds.

Arizona Diamondbacks 10  Atlanta Braves 3
ARIZONA – Patrick Corbin set down five on strikes and allowed two earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched for the Diamondbacks, who have won two out of their last three games. J.D. Martinez launched two home runs and drove in four RBI for Arizona. Aaron Blair allowed five earned runs on five hits in three innings pitched for the Braves.

Chicago Cubs 8  Chicago White Sox 3
CHICAGO – Jake Arrieta earned his 10th victory of the season giving up two earned runs on two hits and setting down five on strikes in 6.2 innings pitched for the Cubs. Addison Russell launched a home run in the ninth inning for the Cubs. James Shields  gave up three earned runs on five hits in four innings pitched for the White Sox.

Washington Nationals 8  Milwaukee Brewers 5
WASHINGTON – Gio Gonzalez fanned eight on strikes and gave up two earned runs on five hits in seven innings pitched for the Nationals, who have won three out of their last four games. Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Lind each drove in two RBI for Washington. Jimmy Nelson struck out 10 and gave up two earned runs in seven innings pitched for the Brewers.

Philadelphia Phillies 9  Houston Astros 0
PHILADELPHIA – Cameron Rupp was responsible for four out of the nine Phillies runs as he launched two, two-run home runs and Philadelphia ended a two-game losing skid. Aaron Nola set down 10 on strikes and allowed four hits in 6 scoreless innings pitched for the home team. Mike Fiers struck out seven and allowed three earned on five hits in four innings pitched for the Astros.

Toronto Blue Jays 3  Oakland Athletics 2
TORONTO – Justin Smoak launched a two-run home run to tie the game in the ninth and Kendrys Morales backed it up with a walk-off home run for the Blue Jays, who have won three in a row. Marco Estrada gave up two earned runs on three hits in five innings pitched for Toronto. Paul Blackburn allowed two hits and struck out three in seven scoreless innings pitched for the Athletics.

Cleveland Indians 10  Los Angeles Angels 4
CLEVELAND – Bradley Zimmer went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and drove in two RBI as the Indians extended their winning streak to six games. Carlos Carrasco allowed two earned runs on six hits and punched out five on strikes in 6.1 innings pitched for Cleveland. Ricky Nolasco gave up three earned runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings pitched for the Angels.

DETROIT – Eric Hosmer went 5-for-6 with a home run and drove in six RBI for the Royals, who extended their winning streak to eight games. Ian Kennedy allowed one earned run on three hits and fanned four on strikes in six innings pitched for Kansas City.

Tampa Bay Rays 5  Baltimore Orioles 1
TAMPA BAY – Alex Cobb struck out six and allowed one earned run on four hits in seven innings pitched as the Rays have won two in a row. Evan Longoria and Steven Souza Jr. each smacked a home run for Tampa Bay. Ubaldo Jimenez fanned nine on strikes and surrendered two earned runs on three hits in six innings pitched for the Orioles.

Miami Marlins 22  Texas Rangers 10
TEXAS – Jose Urena allowed five earned runs on four hits and fanned five on strikes in four innings pitched for the Marlins, who have won their last four out of six games. Dee GordonChristian YelichJ.T. Realmuto and Giancarlo Stanton each smacked homers, while Derek Dietrich and Marcell Ozuna each drove in five RBI for Miami.

St. Louis Cardinals 10  Colorado Rockies 5
ST. LOUIS – Carlos Martinez punched out eight on strikes and allowed five earned on seven hits in six innings pitched as the Cardinals have won three in a row. Paul DeJong rocked a home run and drove in two RBI for St. Louis. Jeff Hoffman allowed seven earned runs on seven hits in four innings pitched for the Rockies.

SEATTLE – Chris Sale earned his 14th game with 10 or more strikes out as he fanned 11 on strikes in seven scoreless innings pitched for the Red Sox. Rafael Devers and Sandy Leon each homered for Boston. Andrew Moore gave up four earned runs on six hits in 6.2 innings pitched for the Mariners.

Los Angeles Dodgers 6  Minnesota Twins 5
LOS ANGELES – Justin Turner earned his only hit of the game when he drove in Austin Barnes, the game winning run in the ninth as the Dodgers extended their winning streak to five games. Brock Stewart struck out two and allowed five hits in 3.2 scoreless innings pitched for Los Angeles. Ervin Santana set down seven on strikes and gave up four earned runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings pitched for the Twins.

San Diego Padres 6  New York Mets 3
SAN DIEGO – Jhoulys Chacin punched out five and allowed two earned runs on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched for the Padres, who ended a two-game losing skid. Manuel Margot went 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run and drove in an RBI for San Diego. Steven Matz fanned four on strikes and surrendered six earned runs on nine hits in three innings pitched for the Mets.

San Francisco Giants 2  Pittsburgh Pirates 1
SAN FRANCISCO – Jeff Samardzija fanned eight on strikes and allowed one earned run on four hits in seven innings pitched for the Giants. Brandon Belt doubled to left to drive in Miguel Gomez to give the Giants the lead. Trevor Williams gave up one earned run on five hits in six innings pitched for the Pirates.
