NYCBL PlayoffRoundup: Gorton, Cats live another day and Rapids keep title hopes alive

SYRACUSE — Tim Gorton went 3-for-6 including a single in the seventh that plated Alexander Ferlenda as the Salt Cats kept their season alive. Ferlenda finished with two hits including a single in the fifth that drove in Matthew Nerz. Kyle Taylor went five and a third innings allowing one run on two hits. The left-hander set down six on strikes and picked up the win. Julian Gutierrez finished with two hits for the Spartans. Game three is set for Thursday. First pitch is at 12 p.m.

GENESEE — AJ Nitzschke went 2-for-4 including a home run in the bottom of the eighth as the Rapids lived another day. Nitzschke added a double in the sixth that plated three. Josh Hayner finished with three hits including a two-out run-scoring double in the sixth. Reliever Jeam Castillo tossed two and two-third innings allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout. The left-hander picked up his first win of the postseason. Game three is set for Thursday to determine who will be crowned Western Division champions. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
