Witherspoon on Sanks: “We are pleased to have Jonathan join our basketball program here at Canisius. He comes here from a high-level junior college program, where he was coached by Jon Cremins, one of the bright young minds in our game. Jonathan brings Division I playing experience to our team, and I am looking for that to translate into leadership both on and off the court.”
Witherspoon also announced that guard Martin Dixon-Green will not return to the program for the 2017-18 season after his appeal to the NCAA for a sixth-year of eligibility was denied.
Canisius went 18-16 overall and 10-10 in MAAC play last season, Witherspoon’s first year at the helm of the program. The Griffs ended the season with a berth in the 2017 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, the fourth postseason appearance in the last five years for the Blue and Gold.
