PGCBL Roundup: Freshmen shine, Simoneit puts out Flames and Pioneers strike Major blow

AMSTERDAM MOHAWKS (26-7) 7
AMSTERDAM, NY– Freshmen TJ Collett (University of Kentucky) and Anthony Gonnella (University of South Florida) each drove in three runs for the Mohawks, who have won eight straight games. Freshman Joe LaSorsa (St. John’s University) pitched six innings for the Mohawks, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Freshman Will Allocca (University of Virginia) knocked in three runs for the Pilots. Freshman Eddie Fournier (Cypress College) threw four scoreless innings in relief for the Pilots, giving up two hits and one walk, while striking out three.

GLENS FALLS, NY– Sophomore Jared Morello (St. Joseph (Vt.)) and freshman Phoenix Hernandez (Southern New Hampshire University) combined for five hits and four RBI as the Dragons won just their second game in the last 10. Sophomore Brandon Budlong (Johnson & Wales (R.I.)) struck out seven in six innings, letting up two unearned runs, six hits and one walk.

ONONDAGA, NY– Sophomore Will Simoneit (Cornell University) brought home four runs on two hits for the Red Wings, who have now won three consecutive games. Sophomore Garrett Uhl (University of Texas-Dallas) tossed four scoreless innings of relief to earn the save for the Red Wings, surrendering two hits and one walk, fanning four. Sophomore Matt Carey (Ithaca College/Webster Thomas) had a hit and a run scored for the Flames.

ELMIRA PIONEERS (18-17) 9
ELMIRA, NY– Incoming freshman Allbry Major (Xavier University) led the Pioneers with three RBI on two hits, sending the Jammers home with a third straight loss. Junior Ben Brookover (University of Texas-San Antonio) contributed two hits, two RBI and two runs scored to the Jammers.
