PGCBL Roundup: Pios sweep doubleheader, Leahy and Martinez duel, and Jammers stay atop league

GAME 1:
ADIRONDACK TRAIL BLAZERS (8-12) 3
ELMIRA PIONEERS (12-13) 9   in 7
ELMIRA, NY– Freshman Ayrton Schaefer (Samford University) drove in two runs in the Pioneers’ game one win. Freshman Houston Roth (Ole Miss) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings of work.

GAME 2:
ADIRONDACK TRAIL BLAZERS (8-13) 4
ELMIRA PIONEERS (13-13) 6     in 7
ELMIRA, NY– Freshman Conor Grammes (Xavier University) knocked in three runs and hit a home run for the Pioneers, who have won six straight games. Grammes also picked up the save, walking three and striking out one in the ninth inning. Sophomore John Michael Boswell (Furman University) went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI for the Trail Blazers.

AMSTERDAM MOHAWKS (18-7) 3
ALBANY DUTCHMEN (13-9) 5
ALBANY, NY– Freshman Nick Estrella (Azusa Pacific University) had two RBI on two hits for the Dutchmen, snapping the Mohawks 11-game winning streak. Freshman Adam Elliot (University of Louisville) threw three innings in relief, holding the Mohawks to two hits, while striking out two to earn the win. Freshman TJ Collett (University of Kentucky) contributed two RBI for the Mohawks.

UTICA BLUE SOX (5-18) 3
NEWARK PILOTS (6-21) 0
NEWARK, NY– Sophomore Dylan Leahy (Keystone College) fanned six, giving up five hits and one walk in complete game shutout for the Blue Sox, ending an eight-game losing streak. Sophomore Henry Martinez (Cypress College) punched out 12 batters over six innings, letting up six hits and two walks for the Pilots.

JAMESTOWN JAMMERS (21-5) 5
SAUGERTIES STALLIONS (13-10) 3
SAUGERTIES, NY– Freshman Connor Rule (Kansas State) added two RBI to the Jammers’ cause, leading them to a seventh straight win. Sophomore Colin Johnston (Monroe Community College/Greece Athena) tossed two-and-one-third scoreless innings, surrendering one hit and striking out four to secure the save.
