On the same day that Major League Baseball announced the 2017 All-Star Game rosters, All-Stars from both leagues proved that they deserved their spot on the team. The majority of hometown fans left disappointed as the road team won nine of the 15 games on Sunday. Baseballs continued flying out of the ballpark at a historic rate as five players finished the night with multi-homer games.

TORONTO- Mookie Betts became the first player in Red Sox history to drive in eight RBI from the leadoff spot with a 4-for-6 performance. Drew Pomeranz (8-4) surrendered one run in six innings pitched as Boston won its fourth game in a row.

DETROIT- For the second time this season, the Indians sent Justin Verlander (5-5) to the showers early scoring seven runs in three-and-one-third innings pitched. Jose Ramirez, who was named the starting third baseman for the American League All-Star team, led the offensive onslaught going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI.

CINCINNATI- Jake Arrieta (8-6) showed flashes of his Cy Young-winning season pitching seven innings of one-hit shutout ball. Ian Happ continued to add to his strong rookie season with a two-home run performance for the defending World Series Champions.

NEW YORK- Rookie starter Nick Pivetta (2-4) kept the Mets bats in check allowing only one hit in seven innings pitched. Daniel Nava continued his strong bounce-back season for the Phillies by driving in three runs.

PITTSBURGH- The Giants rallied to score all five of their runs in the seventh and eighth innings to beat the Pirates and win their sixth straight game. Brandon Belt paced the team offensively going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

BALTIMORE- A struggling Kevin Gausman (5-7) helped turn his season around with a nine-strikeout scoreless start against the Rays. Manny Machado homered and drove in three runs for the Orioles. Alex Cobb (6-6) broke his streak of four-straight quality starts for Tampa Bay.

Milwaukee Brewers (44-40) 3
MILWAUKEE- Dan Straily (6-4) pitched his fifth straight quality start as the Marlins scored 10 runs off 17 hits against the Brewers. National League All-Star starting outfielder Marcell Ozuna hit two home runs and drove in four.

HOUSTON- George Springer, Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve, the three Astros named to the starting lineup of the American League All-Star Team, combined for seven hits against the Yankees. Correa drove in three runs with two doubles.

CHICAGO- Yolmer Sanchez hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to give the White Sox the lead. David Robertson (4-2) struck out Carlos Gomez with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to seal the win for the South-Siders.

KANSAS CITY- Whit Merrifield hit two doubles and stole three bases to help the Royals move into a tie for second place in the American League Central Division. The Royals bullpen pitched five innings of scoreless two-hit ball in the win.

LOS ANGELES- James Paxton (6-3) retired the first 16 batters he faced and allowed only two hits in six-and-one-third innings pitched. Robinson Cano hit his 17th home run of the season, and Jean Segura added four hits in Seattle’s win.
Atlanta Braves (40-41) 4
Oakland Athletics (35-47) 3, 12 innings
OAKLAND- The Braves won their third game in a row behind the bat of Kurt Suzuki, two home runs, and a strong outing from the bullpen, five-and-two-thirds innings pitched with nine strikeouts. Oakland had a runner in scoring position with two outs but could not manage to tie the game in the bottom of the twelfth.

PHOENIX- Ketel Marte smacked a line drive to left field in the bottom of the ninth to drive in Chris Iannetta in a walk-off win against the division-rival Rockies. Taijuan Walker had another strong start for Arizona striking out eight batters in seven innings.
Los Angeles Dodgers (55-29) 3

SAN DIEGO- Jhoulys Chacin (7-7) was an inning away from throwing his sixth straight quality start. The Venezuelan native limited the potent Dodgers offense to just four hits in five scoreless innings. Manuel Margot went 2-for-4 with a home run and double while Hunter Renfroe led the team with four hits against Los Angeles.
Washington Nationals (48-35) 7
St. Louis Cardinals (39-42) 2
ST. LOUIS- Bryce Harper celebrated the news that he would be starting for the National League in the All-Star Game by hitting two home runs and driving in four RBI. Nationals ace Max Scherzer (10-5) pitched seven scoreless innings allowing just two hits while striking out 12. It is his tenth start this season with double digit strikeouts.
