Rome and Sherrill split; Baker leads Salt Cats to .500 and DiDonato fans dozen in win over Spartans

Wellsville Nitros (8-8) 8
Syracuse Spartans (9-8) 7 
SYRACUSE — Dominic Cecere went 2-for-4 including a single in that plated one as the Nitros held on to win the first a dual-opponent doubleheader. Ryan Kosmynka also finished with two hits including an RBI single in the fifth. Justin DiDonato went five and two-third innings allowing no runs on two hits. The right-hander finished with twelve strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season.

Sherrill Silversmiths (10-8) 4
Rome Generals (8-8) 7 Game 1
ROME — Jacob Yish jump-started the Generals offense in the fifth with a single that plated Christian Aybar. Jameson Carey recorded a double that plated two, and the Generals tallied five runs in the fifth to take game one of a doubleheader. John Michael Bertran pitched five innings allowing two runs on six hits. The left-hander fanned five to pick up his second win of the season.

Syracuse Salt Cats (9-9) 10
SYRACUSE — Shannon Baker went 2-for-2 with three RBI including a double in the sixth that plated Darian Blanks as the Salt Cats moved to .500. Brandon Cornelius finished with two hits including a single in the sixth that plated Baker. Reliever Kyle Naugle pitched three and two-third scoreless innings without allowing a hit. The right-hander fanned four to pick up the win.

Genesee Rapids (9-13) 3
Rochester Ridgemen (4-14) 2
ROCHESTER — Zach Roberts went 4-for-5 with two RBI including a triple that plated Riley Brandvold as the Rapids improved to 3-0 against the Ridgemen this season. Jeam Castillo went five and two-third innings allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Mac Cavin picked up the win and Bailey Hall recorded the save as they each went a scoreless inning apiece. Tanner Pruett tossed six innings allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts for the Ridgemen.

Sherrill Silversmiths (10-8) 4
Rome Generals (8-8) 0 Game 2
ROME — John O’Donnell tossed seven scoreless innings allowing four hits as the Silversmiths took game two in a doubleheader. The left-hander fanned one to pick up his third win of the season. Kingsley Ballao got the Silversmiths offense going in the first with a two-run home run. Angelo Baez went 1-for-2 including a single that scored one.  Nicholas Wydler finished with three hits.
