Rochester used a three-run 4th and a four-run 9th inning to beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 8-2 Thursday night at PNC Field.
The Red Wings (29-32) salvaged the final game of the three-game set and snapped a two-game skid against the RailRiders (37-26). Rochester recorded a nine-inning season-high with 14 hits in the win.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took a 1st-inning lead against Aaron Slegers (5-4) as Tyler Austin singled in Tyler Wade to the RailRiders a 1-0 advantage.
Zack Granite extended his hitting streak to a season-high 14 games with an RBI single in the 3rd inning to tie the game against Bryan Mitchell (0-2).
The first of two big innings came in the 4th as ByungHo Park, Niko Goodrum and Bengie Gonzaleztallied RBI singles to give the Red Wings a 4-1 lead. Mitchell didn’t make it out of the inning and was charged with three runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts over 3.2 innings.
Slegers, meanwhile, settled in. He tossed the next 4.0 innings scoreless and scattered three hits and two walks with five strikeouts after surrendering a run on three hits in the 1st.
The RailRiders got a run in the 7th inning thanks to a pair of wild pitches by Alan Busenitz. That would be the only run Busenitz would surrender in 2.0 innings of relief.
Trevor Hildenberger entered in the 8th and allowed a two-out single but struck out a pair in a scoreless inning.
Granite opened the 9th with a bloop hit that he turned into a double, his second hit of the night. He has collected multiple hits in 11 of the last 13 games. He advanced to second on groundout and scored on Matt Hague‘s RBI single. Park walked with two outs to load the bases and Goodrum beat out an infield single to make it 6-2. Leonardo Reginatto‘s third hit of the night drove in two runs to cap the scoring.
Tyler Wade doubled with two outs in the 9th but Hildenberger retired the final batter to secure his fourth save.
