NYCBL Roundup: Ridgemen hand Dodgers first loss of season; Mercado and Spartans walk off

Rome Generals (4-3) 1
Cortland Crush (4-1) 4
CORTLAND — Clayton Jeffries struck out eight and tossed six innings of no-hit ball as the Crush defeated the Generals. Jeffries took a perfect game into the fifth before Rome’s leadoff batter reached on an error. Joseph Rodgers and Dylan Ott both drove in a run with a pair of hits apiece. Ott jump-started a three-run Crush third with an RBI single.

Syracuse Salt Cats (3-4) 5
Syracuse Spartans (2-4) 6
SYRACUSE — Edison Mercado finished 2-for-4 including a walk-off single to cap a dramatic three-run ninth as the Spartans rallied from an early five-run deficit.  Robert Ballinger also went 2-for-4 including a game-tying two-run single in the bottom of the ninth. The Spartans are 2-0 on the season against their cross-town rivals.

Sherrill Silversmiths (4-2) 9
Olean Oilers (2-5) 8
OLEAN — Kingsley Ballao went 3-for-5 with five RBI, including a home run as the Silversmiths won for the first time in three games.  Silversmiths broke the tie in the top of the ninth inning as they tallied up a run. Tyler Hertzwig fanned three and allowed one hit over an inning and a third out of the bullpen for the win.

Rochester Ridgemen (1-5) 8
Hornell Dodgers (6-1) 7
HORNELL — Sean Rooney went 2-for-3 with two RBI as the Ridgemen picked up their first win of the season and handed the Dodgers their first loss of the season. Christian Bitar  highlighted a four-run seventh with a two-run double to cap a five-run comeback. Tanner Pruett set down seven on strikes and allowed three runs on four hits over six innings to pick up the win. Hornell led 5-0 after two innings.
