Adam Jones had a big night who drove in a total of five runs that led the Orioles to take the series in Camden Yards. Jones recorded an RBI double, a three-run homer in the fourth and drove in a run in the eighth. Masahiro Tanaka (5-5) lost his fourth straight start, extending the longest such streak of his career. The right-hander gave up seven runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.

PITTSBURGH — Chris Owings singled home the go-ahead run in the 14th inning, and the Diamondbacks beat the Pirates on the road in a game that took nearly 4 1/2 hours to play. Paul Goldschmidt and Nick Ahmed homered for the Diamondbacks, Ahmed’s homer was huge as he tied the game in the ninth inning. Zack Godley gave up three runs over six innings, his ERA is now at 2.39. T.J. McFarland (3-0) threw three hitless innings to seal the deal.

TORONTO — Devon Travis hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning, Luke Maile connected on a two-run shot, as Toronto swept the Cincinnati Reds. Jason Grilli (2-4) got the victory as the Blue Jays finished the month of May (18-10). The Blue Jays are just one game below .500. The Reds have lost four of their last five games. Joey Votto went yard for the second straight game in a row as he blasted a two-run shot in the first inning.

MINNESOTA — Carlos Correa, George Springer, Alex Bregman, Evan Gattis and Marwin Gonzalez all went yard for the Astros, who scored 40 runs total that led to a three-game sweep of the Twins to set a franchise record. Gattis had three hits and four RBI. Springer reached base in all six of his at-bats. Brian Dozier, Eddie Rosario, and Jason Castro homered for the Twins, who have now lost four straight games. The Twins put three runs up in the sixth on homers by Castro and Rosario to only trail by one, but once again, the bullpen didn’t do its job.

MIAMI — Justin Bour hit two home runs, Marcell Ozuna hit his 14th homer of the season that led the Marlins to complete their first series sweep of the season. Bour hit a solo shot in the fifth and a two-run homer in the sixth. The last time the Marlins swept the Phillies was back in 2012. Dan Straily (4-3) struck out 10 batters, allowed one earned run in 6 2/3 innings to get the win. Straily has won his last three starts in a row. Aaron Nola (2-3) lost his third straight game in a row. He only pitched three innings and gave up four runs.

SAN DIEGO — Luis Perdomo and two relievers combined to hold the Cubs to only three hits. The Padres won their season-best fourth straight game and swept the Cubs for the first time since August 2012. Perdomo pitched seven strong innings, striking out eight batters in five innings. Brad Hand (1-3) tossed a strong inning in the eighth for the win, and Brandon Maurer worked the ninth for his eighth save of the season. The Cubs have lost seven games in a row on the road.

CLEVELAND — Sean Manaea (4-3) retired the first 10 hitters he faced as Oakland took down Cleveland. He gave up a couple singles and a home run to Francisco Lindor in the bottom of the fourth inning. He also allowed just one walk on the night. Chad Pinder homered twice and drove in all three of Oakland’s runs as the Athletics snapped a four-game losing streak. Pinder had a solo homer in the third and broke a 1-all tie with a two-run shot in the fifth. Santiago Casilla picked up his eighth save of the season.

NEW YORK — Eric Thames sent the first-inning changeup from Jacob deGrom into the bullpen in right-center, to start the game off right for Milwaukee. The Brewers tallied more runs to cruise past the Mets on Wednesday. Junior Guerra (1-0) allowed four hits in six scoreless innings, he struck out four and walked three batters. The Mets went 10-14 in April and 13-14 in May, the first time since 2013 they had losing records in both months.

ARLINGTON — Logan Morrison and Derek Norris homered in the 10th inning to cap a late Tampa Bay comeback as the Rays took down Texas. The 10th-inning homers came off Sam Dyson (1-6), who began the season as Texas’s closer. Dyson has an ERA of 10.50 and four blown saves to go with the six losses. What led to extra innings was Kevin Kiermaier tied the score with two outs in the ninth inning home run on the first pitch that was thrown by closer Rich Hill. Elvis Andrus had himself a night with three hits and two RBI.

CHICAGO — Pablo Sandoval had another clutch moment in his MLB career by hitting a tiebreaking single in Boston’s four-run sixth inning and Drew Pomeranz struck out eight batters in his second straight win, helping the Red Sox beat Chicago. Sandoval went 3-for-4 in his first game coming off the disabled list for spraining his right knee. Pomeranz (5-3) allowed one run and seven hits in a season-high seven innings. Matt Barnes tossed a perfect eighth inning which led to Craig Kimbrel struck out the side for his 15th save of the season. Boston has won eight of their last 10 games and is in 2nd place in the AL East.

ST. LOUIS — A late home run by Dexter Fowler helped the St. Louis Cardinals end the Dodgers’ winning streak on Wednesday. Carlos Martinez (4-4) allowed just one run and four hits while striking out nine batters in eight innings to help St. Louis snap a three-game losing streak. Seung-Hwan Oh pitched a scoreless ninth for his twelfth this season. The Dodgers tied the game at one in the sixth on Adrian Gonzalez‘s sacrifice fly that drove in Corey Seager.

KANSAS CITY — J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton hit two-run doubles with two outs in the third inning as the Tigers held on to get the victory. Victor Martinez and Alex Avila homered for the Tigers. Justin Wilson pitched the ninth to collect his fifth save of the season. Matthew Boyd allowed four runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. Warwick Saupold (1-0) allowed only one hit in three scoreless innings to pick up the victory. Kansas City’s offense got going early as they took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Salvador Perez singled home Lorenzo Cain for the first run. Cheslor Cuthbert‘s two-out single scored Eric Hosmer and Perez.

ANAHEIM — Eric Young Jr. hit his first homer since 2014, connecting on a solo shot in the eighth inning to lift the Angels past the Braves. Jesse Chavez pitched seven strong innings for the Angels, giving up just one run, five hits walked a batter and struck out four. Blake Parker (1-2) picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Bud Norris got the last two outs for his 10th save of the season. Jaime Garcia went seven innings for the Braves, allowing just one run, five hits, and three walks.

SEATTLE — James Paxton retired 16 of the first 17 hitters he faced, allowing only a two-out infield single in the third inning. His performance was one of the reasons they defeated Colorado. Seattle’s offense was another reason for the victory. Their offense started getting hot in the second inning as Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager each had singles, both of them advanced on a wild pitch, and Danny Valencia followed with a two-run double. Two batters later, Mike Zunino doubled in Valencia. The Mariners added another run in the fifth and seventh inning to seal the deal.

SAN FRANCISCO — Max Scherzer was controlling the game as he struck out eleven batters in a five-hitter as the Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants to complete a three-game sweep. Ryan Zimmerman hit his 15th homer of the season. Anthony Rendon and Trea Turner added two hits apiece to help Dusty Baker move within one win of becoming the 16th major league manager to reach 1,800 career victories. Buster Posey drove in Eduardo Nunez for the lonely run for San Francisco. Matt Cain lost his third straight game who allowed three runs off eight hits in only five innings.
