BINGHAMTON – A walk-off grand slam broke a ninth inning tie and sent Binghamton to a 10-6 victory over the St. Bonaventure baseball team in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
Binghamton’s Justin Drpich blasted the game-winner with one away in the bottom of the ninth, helping the Bearcats improve to 23-9 overall on the year following a Bonnies rally in the late innings.
Winners of eight of their past nine games, the Bonnies refused to go quietly after falling behind early.
Bona erased deficits of 2-0 and 6-3 to rally for the tie following a run in the seventh and three more in the eighth. David Hollins started the seventh by homering to left to begin the uprising, then capped the rally in the eighth with an RBI single immediately following a double off the bat of T.J. Baker that brought two runs in.
That sent the game to the ninth tied, 6-6, before the Bearcats answered back for the win.
St. Bonaventure had nine hits on the day, led by Hollins’ 2-for-3 outing at the plate. Tommy LaCongo and Jared Baldinelli also drove in runs for the Bonnies who now stand 22-16 overall on the year.
Danny Urban got his first career start, allowing two runs in two innings. Brian Pulli followed with two scoreless frames while Scott Jerge also tossed up a zero with his inning of relief.
The Bonnies return home for Atlantic 10 play this weekend, welcoming Richmond for a three-game set at Fred Handler Park beginning this weekend.
