Irondequoit’s AJ Gartland earned Monroe County Division II Player of the Week for his no-hitter in the Eagles league opener against Greece Arcadia last Monday. On a blustery day with temperatures hovering in the low 40s, Gartland struck out five and walked two for the six-inning no-no as Irondequoit won 6-1. In a game delayed 50 minutes, Gartland watched as his younger brother, Chad, was carted off the field with an injury in the fourth. The senior left-hander did not relent and retired six of the last seven he faced, allowing only two balls out of the infield on the day – a pair of routine fly outs to shallow center.
Canandaigua’s Brian Hoffman garnered Division III Player of the Week. The senior hurler paced the reigning A1 champions to a 2-0 start picking up a win and registering 1.16 ERA over six innings of work. At the plate, Hoffman went 4-for-10, scored three runs and stole two bases.
