UNC, Gamecocks headed to Final Four

SOUTH REGION:

No. 1 NORTH CAROLINA 75 No. 2 KENTUCKY 73

MEMPHIS, TN– North Carolina’s Luke Maye hit a deep, mid-range jumper with 0.3 second left in regulation for the game winner. The Tar Heels held De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk, who averaged a combined 36.5 points this season, to 25 points between the two freshman.

Justin Jackson led the Tar Heels with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists. Edrice Adebayo topped the Wildcats with 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Tar Heels, the top-ranked rebounding team in the country (43.68 per game), outrebounded the Wildcats, ranked 14th in the country (39.76 per game), 44-34.

The Tar Heels moved to 31-7 and will play the Oregon Ducks in the Final Four. The Wildcats finished the season at 32-6.

EAST REGION:

No. 7 SOUTH CAROLINA 77 No. 4 FLORIDA 70

NEW YORK, NY– Chris Silva scored five points during a 14-7 South Carolina run to end the game, giving the Gamecocks the win over the Florida Gators. The Gamecocks will make the program’s first ever Final Four appearance.

Sindarius Thornwell‘s 26 points and seven rebounds led the Gamecocks. Justin Leon put up 18 points and six rebounds for the Gators.

The Gamecocks improved to 26-10 and will face the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who will also be playing in their first Final Four. The Gators finished the year at 27-9.
