The A2 Final Four is set with games to tipoff Tuesday night at Rush-Henrietta High School. Winners will meet Saturday at Fairport High School. Here’s the rundown.
No. 2-seed WAYNE (18-3/Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 6-seed MONROE (11-11/RCAC Division A)
How they got here: Logan Blankenberg scored 16 of his game-high 17 in the first half. Braeden Zenelovic had eight points to go with seven rebounds, and Wayne beat reigning A1 champion Pittsford-Sutherland, 46-43 in the A2 quarter-finals.
Ty Glasgow led four in double figures, and Monroe defeated NE Douglass, 81-67. The Redjackets opened with a 68-45 win over Greece Olympia.
Trends: Wayne won its last six games. The Eagles are looking for their first Section Five Boys Basketball title.
Monroe won two in row before dropping their regular season finale to HF-L. The Redjackets took the 1982 AA crown.
Players to watch for Wayne: Braeden Zenelovic (15 ppg 8 rpg), Logan Blankenberg (13 ppg, 6 rpg), Billy Thomson (10 ppg, 5 apg, 3 steals and Nick Carmichael (11 ppg, 6 rpg).
Players to watch for Monroe: Rayshawn Boswell (21 ppg), Chris Gibson (13 ppg, 14 rpg), Tyquil Glasgow (10 ppg), Jonathan Jones (11 ppg) and De’vante Mateo (9 ppg).
An 8:15 pm tipoff is scheduled.
No. 4 seed BATAVIA (14-7/Monroe County Division 4) vs. No. 8 seed WILSON-MAGNET (10-12/RCAC Division B).
How they got here: Antwan Odom scored 22, and Tee Sean Ayala added 14 as Batavia beat Honeoye Falls-Lima, 59-49 in the A2 quarter-finals. The win was number 400 in the career of Batavia head coach Buddy Brasky.
Wilson-Magnet ended the first quarter on a 15-4 run and went on to knock off top-seeded Leadership Academy, 67-62 in the Class A2 quarter-finals. The Wildcats opened the sectionals with a 67-40 win over SOTA.
The last time they met in the post-season: Tournament MVP Malachi Chenault led the way and fellow Blue Devils Tee Sean Ayala, Ryan Hogan and Trevor Sherwood took care of business and beat Wilson-Magnet, 64-57 in last year’s A2 finals. Donovan Campbell, Earl English and Patrick Phillips led Wilson.
Players to watch for Batavia: Tee Sean Ayala (22.5 ppg and 8 rpg) and Antwan Odom (16 ppg and 7 rpg).
Players to watch for Wilson-Magnet: Robert Davis (16.6 ppg), Desi Floyd (11.3 ppg 7.0 rpg) and Patrick Phillips (6.8 ppg 12.6 rpg).
Trends: Batavia ended the season playing four games in seven days and finished 2-2 in those contests with losses to Newark at home and East Aurora (VI) on the road. The reigning A2 champs also took the 2013 and ’09 B1 titles as well as the 2010 B2 crown. Batavia has won six titles overall.
Trend: Wilson won three of four to finish the regular season. The Wildcats claimed the 2006 Class A title and have won six championships.
