Jadon Hartsfield and Myles Rose scored four points apiece in the fourth quarter as the Vertus Warriors came from behind to beat the Sodus Spartans, 58-57 in Class C1 quarter-final action Friday at East High.
Rose took a feed from Tajman Ball and finished in the lane as Vertus erased a five-point deficit to take a 52-51 lead. Hartsfield followed with a baseline pull-up jumper to cap a 9-1 run and give Vertus a lead it did not surrender.
Trailing 50-45 with seven minutes remaining in the contest, Robert Lowe sliced through the lane and finished with contact. After the and-one, Vertus trailed by two. Next time down the floor, Ball converted a rebound and putback to tie the game at 50.
Greg Coe gave Sodus a brief edge with one of two free throws before Rose and Vertus regained the lead.
Ball led Vertus with 15. Rose added 12. Hartsfield chipped in 11. Lowe had 10.
Kamren Davis converted a three-point play to give Sodus a 40-34 lead with 3:36 to go in the third quarter. Vertus cut the margin to two at 45-43 entering the fourth quarter.
Coe led all scorers with 16. Davis had 12.
Neither team scored over the final 1:48.
No. 3-seed Vertus (13-7) advances to take on No. 7-seed Gananda (12-9) in the semi-finals. Gananda upset second-seeded Marcus Whitman 56-43 in other quarter-final action.
In other Class C1 action, No. 1-seed Northstar Christian beat Bloomfield, 82-56. Fourth-seeded Le Roy defeated North Rose-Wolcott, 79-32.
