LONG ISLAND – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) will play a men’s basketball tripleheader at The New Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Presented By New York Community Bank on Saturday, January 27, 2018, in what will mark the conference’s first-ever basketball games at the venue.
In the LONG ISLAND HOOPS event, Iona College will play Manhattan College, Fairfield University will play Quinnipiac University and Marist College will take on Monmouth University.
Iona and Manhattan met in three consecutive MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship games from 2013-15. Iona holds the most MAAC Men’s Basketball Championships with nine, and Manhattan College holds the second most with five. Last season, Iona became the first school in the conference to win both the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships since Manhattan College accomplished this feat in 1993.
Fairfield and Quinnipiac are separated by just 32 miles in Connecticut. Since Quinnipiac joined the conference in the 2013-14 season, the Bobcats hold a narrow 5-4 advantage in the head-to-head matchup. The road team has won the last seven games in this series, with the last six contests decided by five points or less.
Marist and Monmouth have faced each other 61 times, with Monmouth holding the 40-21 series advantage. Monmouth is the back-to-back MAAC Regular Season Champions (2015-16, 16-17) and hosted two National Invitational Tournament (NIT) games last season. Marist’s current sophomore class has accounted for 59.2 percent of the team’s points and 62.2 percent of the team’s minutes played this season as the Red Foxes continue to make strides under third year head coach Mike Maker.
Tickets to all three games will go on sale at a later date, and information about media credentials will be provided following the on-sale. Home and Away teams will be determined at a later date.
