Jalen Pickett led three in double figures as the Aquinas Li’l Irish erased a double-digit halftime deficit and defeated the Cathedral Prep Ramblers (Pa.) on the road, 56-51 in non-league action Saturday.
Pickett scored 22 on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. The senior guard collected game-highs with eight rebounds and five assists. He also blocked two shots.
The Li’l Irish outrebounded Cathedral Prep, 33-21 including 14 boards on the offensive glass which they converted into a 9-4 advantage in second-chance points.
Aquinas finished with 17 assists on 21 made field goals.
Fellow senior Jason Hawkes scored 11 points to go with four rebounds and four assists.
Sophomore guard Luke Putnam continued his hot-shooting of late connecting on three of five attempts from long range and finishing with 11 points. Putnam connected three times from behind the arc in the Li’l Irish win over Bishop Timon (VI) on Wednesday.
Sincere Alston and Graycen Carter scored four points apiece. Alston grabbed five rebounds.
Anthony Flegler dished out four dimes and grabbed two rebounds. Eric Carter corralled five caroms.
Aquinas outscored Cathedral Prep in the paint, 30-16. The Li’l Irish bench got the better of their counterparts, 6-4.
Mark Majewski and Adam Upperman netted 13 apiece for the Ramblers. Aaron McBride added 10. Cathedral Prep committed just five turnovers. Prep converted eight AQ turnovers into 12-9 edge in points off turnovers. Cathedral Prep led 33-21 at halftime.
Aquinas (13-5) won their second straight and fourth out of their last five games. The Li’l Irish host Canisius (VI) on Tuesday.
