ROCHESTER – Malik Colvin-Seldon scored eight of his game-high 31 during a crucial 18-0 second-half run to help lead MCC to a 100-88 win over 10th-ranked Niagara County Community College Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes trailed 60-57 after a Thunderwolf 3 with 14:07 left on the clock. MCC then scored the next 18 points over a span of 4:36 to go up 75-60 and take control of the contest.
Omar Williams started the run with a pair of free throws, and after a turnover, added a driving layup to put Monroe up 61-60. A Colvin-Seldon steal turned into two more free throws, and the sophomore followed with a layup after another Niagara miscue to put MCC up 65-60.
Holden Redparth knocked down two from the charity stripe following a Niagara technical, and Kewan Platt hit one of his four 3’s on the ensuing possession to make it a 10-point game. Colvin-Seldon followed with four more free throws to help punctuate the run.
Coming off a career-high 35 points in a win at Mercyhurst North East on Wednesday, Colvin-Seldon continued his stellar play. The forward finished 11-of-15 from the floor on Saturday, converted all nine free throws, hauled down 10 rebounds and blocked four shots.
MCC moved to 4-3 in the conference and 13-9 overall with the win. Niagara falls to 5-2 and 19-5.
Platt had a fine all-around game for the Tribunes, compiling 22 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Williams finished with 15 points and five assists, Redparth chipped in 12 points, and Destin Blunt hit four 3’s and scored 12.
