ROCHESTER – Erie Community College outscored MCC 16-9 over the final seven minutes to pull away for a 76-68 win in a Western New York Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes (1-3 WNYAC, 10-9 overall) were undone by 24 turnovers, which the Kats turned into 23 points. MCC registered just seven points off 15 Kat miscues.
Despite a 11-point deficit at the break, Monroe battled back to take a 60-59 lead on a thunderous two-hand dunk by Malik Colvin-Seldon. The slam accounted for two of the sophomore’s team-high 21 points.
Erie responded with a mini-run to go up 69-63 before Devonte Dixon hit a corner 3 to cut the lead back to three with 4:03 left. But after an Erie miss, MCC turned the ball over and the Kats nailed a 3 on the ensuing possession to regain the momentum.
Colvin-Seldon also tallied seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals. He was 10-of-16 from the floor. Kewan Platt finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, including three dunks in the second half that helped bring the Tribunes back into the game.
Dixon finished with 11 points, while Omar Williams scored 10.
The Tribunes shot 36 percent from the floor (23-for-63), and hit just 16-of-26 from the free throw line.
