ROCHESTER – Lanay Rodney registered a triple-double to lead 13th-ranked MCC team to an 87-50 win over Erie Community College in a WNYAC women’s basketball contest Saturday.
Rodney finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and also nabbed six steals as the Tribunes (4-0, 16-3) grabbed sole possesion of first place in the conference. Erie fell to 3-1 in the WNYAC and 8-11 overall.
MCC forced a season-high 46 turnovers, which they turned into 52 points. Monroe had 23 steals on the game, with Torrie Cash and Shalix Hines registering five apiece.
The Tribunes jumped out to a quick double-digit lead before the Kats fought back to within three after the first quarter. But Monroe outscored Erie 18-6 in the second to take a 15-point lead into the break.
MCC built the lead to 23 after a strong third quarter and then tacked on 26 more points in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Sierra Green came off the bench to score 19 to lead the Tribunes. Cash added 15 points, Erica Abitante had 11, and Jaynelle Robinson chipped in with eight.
