Looking back at some notable individual performances from last week.
Desi Floyd 5-foot-10 So. G Wilson Wildcats (A2/RCAC): Sturdy guard who is not afraid of contact, at his best going to the basket where he can finish with either hand, difficult to knock off the dribble. He can create shots for himself and is capable of setting up teammates. Active off the ball and catches well while moving. Tireless rebounder who easily sheds block out attempts. Willing defender who can guard a variety of positions. Wilson (5-10) plays NE Douglass Tuesday, January 31st at School No. 33.
William Green Jr. 5-foot-11 Jr. G Greece Olympia Spartans (A2/Monroe County): Dynamic scorer with range that extends beyond the arc. At the same time keeps defenses honest with sharp back door cuts. Can score in traffic with either hand or knock down pull-up jumpers in transition. Long, active defender who responsibly denies on the perimeter but can also lock up a ball handler. Aggressive on the boards where he takes advantage of quickness to gain position and track long rebounds. Greece Olympia (2-12) hosts Gates-Chili Wednesday, January 25th.
Jeremy Jacob 5-foot-10 Sr. G Pittsford-Mendon Vikings (A1/Monroe County): Energetic guard who can score in a variety of ways, creates for self and teammates, range extends beyond the arc, but keeps defenses honest off the dribble. Uses smooth, quick uptake to set up a deceptively strong first step. Smart off the ball making economical cuts. Underrated defender who is capable of guarding an opponent’s primary perimeter threat. Pittsford-Mendon (12-3) plays at Canandaigua on Friday, January 27th.
Ty-Meek Mackie 6-foot-2 Sr. G Leadership Academy Lions (A2/RCAC): Keen distributor of the ball, not Leadership’s point guard, but may be the Lions best passer. Understands how to use the dribble to create a better passing angle. Strong off the dribble, absorbs contact and can finish with either hand. Has learned how to pick his spots, capable of of hitting jumpers when left open. Aggressive defender who can guard a variety of positions. Leadership (10-4) hosts SOTA next Tuesday, January 31st.
Nigel Scantlebury 6-foot Jr. G Greece Athena (A1/Monroe County): Disruptive defender who routinely forces opposing ballhandlers to turn their back to protect the ball. Gets in passing lanes with active hands but is also wary of backdoor cuts. Can stuff a stat sheet quickly with points, rebounds, assists and steals. Plays in a lineup with several scorers and is patient enough to wait for openings, but pounces when he gets the chance. Comfortable behind the arc and catching while in motion. Greece Athena (12-1) travels to play at Pittsford-Sutherland on Friday January 27th.
