NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — La Salle’s Amy Griffin was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while George Mason freshman Jacy Bolton and George Washington freshman Kendall Bresee earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday, were for games played Jan. 16-22.
Griffin averaged 24.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in a week where La Salle went 2-0 with a pair of A-10 road wins. The junior from Atlanta, Ga., had 26 points and 11 rebounds in a win at Davidson on Saturday. Earlier in the week in a win over Richmond, she had 22 points, seven rebounds and a tied career-high with five blocks. For the week she was 19-of-32 (.532) shooting from the field.
Bolton tied a career-high with 17 points and also recorded nine rebounds in George Mason’s win at Richmond on Sunday. The freshman from Drexel, Mo., set a career-high with four 3-pointers in the win. For the week, Bolton averaged 12.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Bresee had a breakout performance in GW’s comeback double overtime victory over Massachusetts with nine points, a career-high 10 rebounds and three assists. The freshman from Fredericksburg, Md., hit three 3-pointers including the game-tying shot late in the fourth quarter that completed GW’s 15-point comeback.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll
Davidson’s Mackenzie Latt led the Wildcats to their first A-10 win on the season after scoring 14 points, seven rebounds and a career-high six steals against George Mason. Davidson freshman Amy Welling averaged 4.0 points and 5.0 rebounds coming off the bench for the Wildcats…Dayton’s Saicha Grant-Allen recorded her sixth double-double performance of the season (16 points, 13 rebounds) in the Flyers’ overtime win against Saint Joseph’s…Duquesne’s Amadea Szamosi had a season-high 27 points along with 10 rebounds in the Dukes’ 94-65 win over Saint Louis…G’Mrice Davis recorded her 12th and 13th double-doubles of the season last week for Fordham. Against Saint Joseph’s, she had 22 points and 19 rebounds. Fordham freshman Anna Kelly scored a team-high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting in the loss to VCU on Sunday…George Mason’s Kara Wright averaged 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games last week…George Washington’s Lexi Martins posted a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double in a comeback win in double overtime against Massachusetts. Martins has recorded six straight double-doubles and one in every conference game this season…Rhode Island’s Charise Wilson averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals over two games. Wilson also became URI’s all-time leader in 3-pointers with 186…St. Bonaventure’s Mariah Ruff averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in wins over Massachusetts and Duquesne. St. Bonaventure Jalisha Terry scored 12 points and had a career-high six rebounds in the Bonnies win over Duquesne…Saint Louis’ Olivia Jakubicek averaged 11.5 points and 8.0 rebounds on 9-of-15 (.600) shooting…Over two games last week, VCU’s Keira Robinson averaged 13.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals.
