Jalen Pickett scored a game-high 30 points, and the Aquinas Li’l Irish won their third straight with a 74-53 victory over the Edison Tech Inventors, Wednesday night.
Pickett connected on 12 of 18 shots from the floor including five of nine behind the arc to pace an overall effort which saw the Li’l Irish hit 10 3-pointers on the night. The senior guard corralled eight rebounds and handed out six assists. He collected two blocks and one steal while committing one turnover on the night.
Fellow senior Jason Hawkes chipped in 15 points and a game-high eight assists. The Li’l Irish handed out 20 helpers on 29 made field goals. Hawkes had eight rebounds.
Sincere Alston came off the bench to haul in a game-high nine rebonds. AQ grabbed 38 caroms including 10 on the offensive end which they converted to an 8-4 advantage in second-chance points.
Aquinas outscored the Inventors in the paint 36-24.
The Li’l Irish turned 10 Edison turnovers into 15 points.
Aquinas trailed briefly in the first quarter before taking an 11-4 advantage at the end of the stanza. The Li’l Irish pushed the lead to 40-16 at half half. AQ led by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter.
AQ’s Anthony Flegler scored 10 on 4-of-6 shooting.
Marique Simkin paced Edison with 23 on 10 of 20 shooting. The senior guard connected three times behind the arc. Amare Holland connected on 5-of-8 from long range and finished with 19 points for the Inventors.
Alston (four) and Danny Speed (four) led an Aquinas bench which outscored its counterparts 15-3.
AQ converted 6 of 10 free throws while Edison went one of seven from the charity stripe.
Aquinas shot 51.8 percent (29-56) from the floor including 10 of 26 from downtown.
Aquinas (9-2) plays at Liverpool this Saturday before hosting Fairport in the Rochester Area Players (RAP) Showcase on Saturday, January 28th.
Edison (7-5) hosts Leadership Academy on Friday. A 6:45 start is slated.
