Looking back at some of last week’s top performers.
Ryan Algier 6-foot-8 Sr. F Fairport Red Raiders (AA/Monroe County): Technically sound post play player who can pivot in either direction and finish with both hands in paint. Though slender, uses shoulders to create space, soft touch with a jump hook. Can step out to 10 feet and knock down jumpers. Solid defender who plays with foul discipline. Active on the boards, he effectively distributes outlet passes from the defensive end. Fairport (11-1) hosts Churchville-Chili on Wednesday.
Anthony Iglesia 5-foot-6 Jr. G McQuaid Jesuit Knights (AA/RCAC): Daring shooter with range to at least 25 feet, distorts opposing defense which have to adjust to his presence on the floor. Crafty off the dribble in half-court set, picks his spots well to get inside the teeth of the defense, can make plays for himself and teammates in traffic. Underrated ball handler who makes the easy pass. Developing on-the-ball defender. Always in the right spot off the ball. McQuaid (8-5) hosts NE Douglass, Wednesday.

Marique Simkin 6-foot-2 Sr. G Edison Tech Inventors (AA/RCAC) Edison Tech plays at Aquinas, Wednesday. Uses low center of gravity combined with impressive upper and lower body strength to attack opposing defenses off the dribble, effectively uses a hesitation dribble to throw defenders off-balance. Impressive court vision, not afraid to give it up to man ahead on the break. Limits his number of jumpers, but has to be defended out to 20 feet. Willing on-the-ball defender who limits the court vision of opposing ballhandlers who have to turn back to protect ball. Edison (7-4) plays at Aquinas on Wednesday.

Patrick Thomas 6-foot-4 So. F Bishop Kearney Kings (AA/Private/Independent): Unparalleled motor in Section Five. Fierce rebounder, with impressive upper-body strength, requires more than one opposing player to keep off the glass, bounces off contact when going to the basket. First one on the floor for a loose ball. Does not need the ball to work hard. Developing foul discipline. Bishop Kearney (9-3) plays UPrep at Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday.

Daiquon Turner 6-foot-3 Sr. G NE Douglass Panthers (A2/RCAC) Quiet stat sheet stuffer. Long and lanky, plays with heady instincts. Solid balance of hands, uses height to see over opposing defenders. Can knock down a pull-up jumper going in either direction, has to be contained from going to the rim. At the same time occasionally displays a floater to keep defenses honest. Willing defender on and off the ball, uses active hands to limit vision and disrupt opposing offenses, has to be accounted for every time down the floor. NE Douglass (9-4) plays at McQuaid, Wednesday.
