CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lehigh senior center Tim Kempton has tied the Patriot League men’s basketball single-season record, earning The Rock Patriot League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor for the sixth time and his second in a row. Colgate freshman Will Rayman earned his second The Rock Patriot League Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.
Kempton ties former Lehigh star C.J. McCollum, who earned six player of the week awards in 2010-11 and 2011-12, and former Bucknell star Mike Muscala, who earned six player of the week awards in 2012-13. Kempton is currently among the nation’s top-20 in scoring (21.7 ppg) and rebounding (10.6 rpg). Kempton passes American’s Garrison Carr (2008-09) and Vlad Moldoveanu (2010-11), who each earned five player of the week honors during a single-season.
Rayman earns his second Patriot League Rookie of the Week award after averaging 16.0 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game during a 1-1 week.
Navy junior guard Bryce Dulin earns honorable mention after averaging 18.5 points per game in a 2-0 week to help the Mids climb back to .500 in League play. Junior center Nana Foulland averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game during a 1-1 week for Bucknell, senior forward Malachi Alexander averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during a 1-1 week for Holy Cross and junior guard Sean O’Brien averaged 16.5 points and 5.0 assists during a 1-1 week for Colgate to all earn honorable mention.
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL THE ROCK PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tim Kempton, Lehigh, Sr., C/F, 6-10, Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep
Kempton averaged 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds to help the Mountain Hawks go 2-0 last week and earn his single-season record tying sixth Patriot League men’s basketball Player of the Week honor of the season. Kempton scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds to hand Bucknell its first League loss of the season on Wednesday. On Saturday, Kempton had his 10th double-double of the season with 23 points, while tying his career-high with 17 rebounds to help defeat Holy Cross. His 17 boards fell one short of the Stabler Arena single-game rebound record. Kempton is 17th in the nation in points (21.7 ppg) and 12th in rebounding (10.6 rpg).
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL THE ROCK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK,
Will Rayman, Colgate, Fr., F, 6-8, New York, N.Y./Millbrook School
Rayman earns his second Patriot League Rookie of the Week of the season after averaging 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during the Raiders’ 1-1 week. Against Army West Point, Rayman scored 13 points and pulled down four rebounds in the overtime victory, Colgate’s first win at Christl Arena in the last six seasons. He scored a team-high 19 points and pulled down six rebounds in a loss to Bucknell on Saturday. Rayman has scored in double figures eight times this season and leads Colgate, averaging 15.1 points per game.
WEEKLY HONORABLE MENTION
Bryce Dulin, Navy, Jr., G, 6-4, Nixa, Mo./Nixa
Dulin averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals during a 2-0 week for Navy. He shot a 68.4 percent (13-for-19) from the floor and 63.6 percent (7-for-11) from beyond the arc over the two games. Dulin finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in a win over Loyola Maryland on Wednesday, before finishing with a team-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting (5-of-6 from 3 pt. range) on Saturday.
Nana Foulland, Bucknell, Jr., C, 6-9, Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic
Foulland averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 66.7 percent from the floor during Bucknell’s 1-1 week. Foulland scored 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds in the Bison loss to Lehigh on Wednesday. He recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds to go with two blocks in a win over Colgate on Saturday. He is now just eight points shy of becoming the 40th player in Bucknell history to score 1,000 points.
Malachi Alexander, Holy Cross, Sr., F, 6-7, Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt
Alexander averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds on 56.5 percent shooting during a 1-1 week for Holy Cross. The senior forward finished with 19 points and points and five rebounds in a victory over Lafayette on Wednesday. He followed up the performance with 15 points and four rebounds in a loss to Lehigh on Saturday.
Sean O’Brien, Colgate, Jr., G, Lafayette Hill, Pa./Penn Charter
O’Brien led the Raiders during a 1-1 week, averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The junior guard scored a team-high 18 points and dished out seven assists in Colgate’s overtime victory over Army West Point on Wednesday. It was Colgate’s first win at Christl Arena in six years. O’Brien finished with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Raiders loss to Bucknell on Saturday.
