Saint Joseph’s freshman forward Lorenzo Edwards will undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder later this week, it was announced by head coach Phil Martelli.
Edwards, a 6-6 forward from Lake Forest, Ill., has been battling shoulder instability all season. He saw action in one game this season for the Hawks, against Columbia on November 14.
“We’re most concerned right now that Lorenzo can get healthy and then we’ll move towards developing his game. This injury has been ongoing since the summer so we’ve not been able to get an accurate evaluation of his basketball skills. All of us will lend our support during his rehabilitation and we look forward to seeing him back on the court,” said Martelli.
He becomes the third Saint Joseph’s player to be sidelined for the year. Sophomore Pierfrancesco Oliva has been out since the summer with a knee injury and more recently, the Hawks lost leading scorer Shavar Newkirk with a torn ACL.
Saint Joseph’s will host George Mason on Tuesday, January 10 at 7 p.m.
