No. 10 Louisville wins duel with No. 6 Kentucky

In a game with 11 lead changes, the most important came at the 6:11 mark of the second half when sophomore guard Donovan Mitchell picked up a layup to give Louisville a 59-57 lead, which they did not surrender for the rest of the game.

Louisville shot 43.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three. Kentucky finished shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 22.7 percent from three. Louisville also out-rebounded Kentucky 40-36.

Junior guard Quentin Snider led Louisville with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists. Freshman guard De’Aaron Fox topped Kentucky with 21 points.

Louisville improves to 11-1 and Kentucky drops to 10-2.

No. 1 VILLANOVA 90 AMERICAN 48

Senior guard Josh Hart led Nova (12-0) with 20 points and seven rebounds in the win.

No. 2 UCLA 82 WESTERN MICHIGAN 68

Senior guard Bryce Alford was UCLA’s (13-0) top scorer with 22 points and junior guard Thomas Wilder led Western Michigan (3-8) with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.

No. 4 BAYLOR 89 TEXAS SOUTHERN 63

Junior forwards Johnathan Motley (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. (14 points, 10 rebounds) dropped double-doubles for Baylor (12-0).

No. 5 DUKE 72 ELON 61

Duke (12-1) picked up a 21-point, seven-rebound night from sophomore guard Luke Kennard and a 18 point, eight rebound night from freshman forward Jayson Tatum, and Elon (7-5) got a 18 points, nine rebound game from junior forward Brian Dawkins.

No. 7 GONZAGA 102 SOUTH DAKOTA 65

Nigel Williams-Goss, a junior guard with Gonzaga (12-0), led the team with 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

No. 8 UNC 85 NORTHERN IOWA 42

Senior forward Kennedy Meeks netted 18 points and eight rebounds for North Carolina as one of four players in double digits.

No. 12 VIRGINIA 56 CALIFORNIA 52

Freshman guard Kyle Guy led Virginia (10-1) with 17 points and four rebounds, and senior guard Jabari Bird led California (9-3) with 15 points and four rebounds.

No. 13 BUTLER 81 VERMONT 69

Kelan Martin, a junior forward for Butler (11-1), scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Vermont (8-5) was led by junior forward Drew Urquhart with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Anthony Lamb (Greece Athena) scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds for Vermont.

No. 15 PURDUE 91 NORFOLK STATE 45

Sophomore forward Caleb Swanigan dropped a double-double (32 points, 20 rebounds) for Purdue (11-2).

CLEMSON 62 No. 22 SOUTH CAROLINA 60

Senior forward Jaron Blossomgame dropped a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds) for Clemson (9-2) and sophomore guard PJ Dozier paced South Carolina (9-2) with 26 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

OTHER:

FORDHAM 83 CENTRAL CONNECTICUT 60

Junior guard Antwoine Anderson (Bishop Kearney) scored 15 points, along with seven assists and four rebounds for Fordham.

ROBERT MORRIS 74 BUFFALO 71

Redshirt-sophomore guard Dontay Caruthers (East High) put up four points and three rebounds for Buffalo.
