WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth senior guard Je’lon Hornbeak (Arlington, TX/Grace Prep/Oklahoma) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Hornbeak notched career-highs in points and three pointers in the win at Memphis last Tuesday.
Hornbeak was a major reason Monmouth knocked off its sixth high-major program in two years, beating Memphis last week at FedEx Forum. He netted a career-best 21 points and set a career-high with six threes, going 6-of-7 from deep. He also knocked in two key free throws with 0.7 seconds left to extend Monmouth’s lead to three, and added four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 27 minutes. His efforts helped MU to a record-tying eighth win in a row and tied the best start in school history at 9-2.
Hornbeak is the first MAAC honoree this season for the Hawks, and it is his first career weekly honor. He returns to the floor tomorrow when MU takes on Princeton at the OceanFirst Bank Center, with tip set for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN3.
