Though it took nearly the entire game to do it, the Tar Heels of North Carolina beat the Tennessee Volunteers. After holding an 11-10 lead at the 14:38 mark in the first half, UNC saw Tennessee go on an 18-2 run to take a 15 point lead before the teams went into the locker room.
The Tar Heels did not reclaim the lead until junior forward Justin Jackson drove the lane and got a layup to go with 2:15 to go in the game. This marked the final lead change of the game, securing the win for UNC.
Sophomore guard Kenny Williams led UNC in points with 12 while senior guard Nate Britt added 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds and five steals. Freshman forward Tony Bradley picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Robert Hubbs III was Tennessee’s top performer with 21 points and six rebounds.
UNC improves to 10-1, while Tennessee drops to 4-4.
No. 6 KENTUCKY 96 HOFSTRA 73
Isaiah Briscoe, a sophomore guard, led Kentucky (9-1) with 19 points, six assists and two rebounds, and senior guard Deron Powers led Hofstra (6-5) with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists.
No. 12 SAINT MARY’S 84 UC IRVINE 53
Junior center Jock Landale paced Saint Mary’s (7-1) with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists while freshman forward Tommy Rutherford led UC Irvine (5-6) with 11 points and four rebounds.
FLORIDA STATE 83 No. 21 FLORIDA 78
Sophomore guards Dwayne Bacon (24 points) and Terance Mann (16 points, 10 rebounds) paced the Seminoles. KeVaughn Hill scored 21 points collected three rebounds and three assists for Florida.
No. 24 OREGON 65 ALABAMA 56
Sophomore guard Tyler Dorsey led Oregon (8-2) with 19 points and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Donta Hall topped Alabama (4-4) with 14 points and seven rebounds.
