BRANCHBURG, New Jersey – Devonte Dixon scored 27 to lead the MCC men’s basketball team to an overtime victory over Raritan Valley on Sunday and a weekend sweep of a pair of road games.
The Tribunes topped Raritan Valley 87-84 to move to 6-4 on the season. That came on the heels of an 84-67 win against Lackawanna College on Saturday.
Dixon finished 5-for-7 from beyond the arc and nailed a pair of free throws with 29.9 seconds left in overtime to clinch the win against Raritan Valley. The freshman guard scored 16 of his game-high total in the second half and overtime.
Omar Williams added 22 points and seven assists for the Tribunes. The sophomore point guard hit one free throw with a minute left in the extra session to put Monroe up 85-84, setting up Dixon’s late points.
Kewan Platt chipped in with 11 points and six boards and Holden Redparth contributed 10 points and nine rebounds for MCC. Malik Colvin-Seldon added nine points, 13 rebounds, and seven blocked shots.
Dixon hit six 3’s and scored 23 to lead Monroe past Lackawanna on Saturday. Colvin-Seldon added 18 points, eight boards and seven blocks, and Platt had a huge all-around game with 14 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals.
Williams added 12, while Tremaine Carter chipped in with seven poitns and five rebounds.
Monroe hosts Lackawanna College this weekend in the first round of the Pete Pavia Scholarship Tournament. An 8 p.m. tipoff is scheduled on Saturday.
