NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — George Mason’s Kara Wright was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while St. Bonaventure freshman Jalisha Terry earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday, were for games played Nov. 28 – Dec.4.
Wright averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of road wins last week for George Mason. The redshirt senior guard from Louisville, Ky., made the game-winning layup with 3.5 seconds left and scored 15 points in a 55-54 victory at Detroit Mercy on Wednesday. She also had three steals and four rebounds. In the Atlantic 10 opener at Massachusetts on Sunday, Wright notched her second career double-double with a game-high 22 points and a career-high tying 10 rebounds to lead the Patriots to a 66-55 victory. She was clutch down the stretch, making 9-of-10 free throws in the final 2:52 of the game to help the Patriots pull away with the victory. She finished 12 for 13 at the foul line, setting a career high in made free throws. She also dished out four assists and made two 3-pointers.
Terry broke her previous high in scoring by netting a game-high 17 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists in a breakout performance in the Bonnies’ 51-37 victory over Stony Brook. The freshman guard from Flint, Mich., shot 8-of-12 from the floor and has now averaged over 13 points per game since joining the starting line-up.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll
In the conference opener against Duquesne on Thursday, Fordham’s Danielle Burns poured in 22 points, a team season-high, on 8-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, to go with a season-high seven rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes of action. Fordham freshman Kate Kreslina had a strong performance in a 2-0 week for the Rams recording nine points and four rebounds against Duquesne on Thursday, followed by 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists against Boston College…George Mason’s Jacy Bolton scored 14 points and nabbed a career-high three steals in the Patriots’ 66-55 victory at Massachusetts…George Washington’s Hannah Schaible averaged 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 86 percent (6-of-7) from the free-throw line in wins over VCU and Illinois this past week…La Salle’s Amy Griffin scored a game-high 23 points and had six rebounds in a 54-51 road win at Dayton on Sunday afternoon. For the week, she averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 17-of-34 from the field…Rhode Island’s Charise Wilson poured in 27 points against Brown, her fourth straight game with 25 or more points. She followed with 31 points against UMass Lowell, her second game of the year with more than 30 points…Richmond freshman Jaide Hinds-Clarke averaged 10.5 points per game to go with 5.0 rebounds. She contributed her first double-digit scoring performance of her career, scoring 12 points and grabbing five boards against Cleveland State…Playing a team-best 39 minutes against Villanova, Saint Joseph’s Chelsea Woods finished with a team-high 17 points and 12 rebounds…Saint Louis’ Olivia Jakubicek recorded the second and third double-doubles of her career this week in wins against Southeast Missouri State (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Eastern Kentucky (11 points and 10 rebounds).
