NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona College men’s basketball’s 2017-18 recruiting class has started to take shape as head coach Tim Cluess and staff announced two additions during the early signing period.
Next fall, the Gaels welcome C.J. Seaforth (Hamden, CT) and Samson George (Edo, Nigeria) to New Rochelle after the pair committed to the Maroon & Gold earlier this month.
“C.J. and Samson offer two dynamics to our program with their commitments to the class of 2017,” said Cluess. “C.J. brings quickness to the backcourt and the ability to shoot at a high level while also providing for his teammates. Meanwhile, Samson is a large frame for our frontcourt depth with the strength to rebound and score at this level.”
Seaforth joins Iona from the same USAD AAU program in Connecticut that produced current Gaels Schadrac Casimir and E.J. Crawford. Seaforth enters his senior season at Hamden High School as a 6-0 guard that averaged 22 points per game as a junior.
According to New England Recruiting Report (NERR), Seaforth ranks as the fifth top prospect in the state. The Hamden native is a high-level playmaker with long arms and quick feet. His high potential is coupled with an ability to create shots.
Adding size to the frontcourt in 2017, George stands at 6-7 while enrolled at First Love Christian Academy in Washington, PA. During his junior season, the Nigeria native averaged 15 points and 11.5 rebounds per-game.
George played AAU with the New York Rens based out of New York City. The 210-pound 2017 commit offers a toughness and grit while being a strong rebounder.
