Perrantes leads No. 7 UVA to Emerald Coast championship

No. 7 Virginia 63 Providence 52

London Perrantes scored 11 points to lead the No. 6 Virginia Cavaliers (6-0) to the Emerald Coast Classic championship. Perrantes added eight rebounds and five assists while the Cavaliers defense continued to slow opponents. Perrantes hit four of eight shots from the floor including three of four behind the three-point arc. Providence’s 52 points represent the most surrendered by UVA this season. Providence’s Emmitt Holt (Webster Schroeder) scored 11 points and grabbed six rebonds in the loss. Holt added two steals, an assist and a block. The Friars fell to 4-2.

No. 9 Xavier 64 Northern Iowa 42

J.P. Macura connected on six of nine shots including three of six from long range to lead Xavier in a wire-to-wire win. The Musketeers defense held Northern Iowa to just 12 first-half points – the fewest Xavier has held an opponent since 1982-83 season. Xavier out rebounded Northern Iowa 42-20. In a scheduling oddity, the same two teams (non-conference opponents) were meeting for the second consecutive game having played last Sunday in the finals of the Tire Pros Invitational. A game which Xavier won 67-59.

South Carolina 64 No. 18 Syracuse 50

Maik Kotsar and Sindarius Thornwell scored 16 points apiece to lead South Carolina (6-0) past Syracuse in the Brooklyn Hoops Invitational. PJ Dozier added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Gamecocks. Tyler Lydon scored 18 for Syracuse (4-1).

No.6 Duke 93 Appalachian State 58

Grayson Allen led all five starters in double figures with 21 points. Luke Kennard added 18 points and nine rebounds as Duke improved to 6-1.

No.12 Creighton 82 Loyola (MD) 52

Justin Patton scored 14 of his game-high 17 points in the second half, and Creighton (6-0) brushed off a sluggish start to defeat Loyola. Creighton, which led by five points at half, shot 74 percent coming out of the locker room.

No. 17 Purdue 79 NJIT 68

Caleb Swanigan netted 22 and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace Purdue.

No. 25 Michigan 64 Mount St. Mary’s 47

Zak Irvin scored 14 to lead three in double figures for Michigan (5-1). Moritz Wagner added 13 while Derrick Walton Jr. chipped in with 12. Mount St. Mary’s Junior Robinson hit five of six behind the arc and led all scorers with 21.

Vermont 67 Yale 65

Anthony Lamb (Greece Athena) paced the Catamounts with 18 points, five rebounds and one assist.

UT-Arlington 67 Fordham 63

Antwoine Anderson (Bishop Kearney) netted 18 points to go with six steals and four assists.

Buffalo 74 Weber State 72

Dontay Caruthers (East) collected two points, two steals and an assist.
